Travis Wenger, son of Phil and Becky Wenger and older brother to Tyler, was born on July 21, 1982. Travis was raised on the family farm in Middleville and attended Thornapple Kellogg Schools throughout his school career, graduating in June of 2001. He was pursuing a career in Landscape Design at the time of his accidental death. Travis was an active member of the Middleville Clover’s Livestock 4-H Club and West Thornapple 4-H Club for ten consecutive years, showing beef cattle and various non-livestock entries. He was also involved in several community service projects, lending a helping hand wherever he was needed. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Travis’ memory and to continue helping others make their dreams a reality.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Student must be a graduating senior or a full time (minimum 12 credit hours) freshman at an accredited institution or vocational program.
- Student must be accepted to an accredited college, university or vocational institution.
- Student must provide at least three letters of recommendation from the following areas: 4-H Leader, teacher, coach, employer, pastor, neighbor or athletic director. Letters from immediate family members WILL NOT qualify.
- Student will be evaluated on essay content. Essay must include:
- The value of the 4-H program from previous experiences to future endeavors.
- Explanation on how 4-H has prepared the applicant for his/her future.
- Involvement in community service projects including contributions during fair week.
- Student must be an active 4-H member and participant of the Barry County Fair for the last four or more consecutive years.
